A keloid is a type of scar which is as a result of an overgrowth of granulation tissue. It is a tough heaped-up scar that rises quite abruptly above the rest of the skin. It usually has a smooth top and a pink or purple color. Keloids are irregularly shaped and tend to enlarge progressively. Unlike scars, keloids do not subside over time.

So what’s the best way of getting rid of keloid? First is to get a cream that’s effective and very good in scar removal.

Keloid can be treated through use of a variety of creams available for treatment. There are various scar gels and creams which may help, but they are most effective against newly formed scars, and even then their effectiveness may be limited. The creams contain useful ingredients that help in the cure of keloids. This includes ingredients extracted from onion bulbs. Allantoin is another ingredient in the creams that can heal keloid. It helps with the growth of new tissue by helping to protect and sooth it. The other ingredient in creams used for treatment for keloid is heparin, which is most commonly used intravenously to prevent blood clots, but in the case of this gel, it is used for its anti-inflammatory and water retention qualities.

There are other over the counter creams that can be used in the treatment of keloid. Most of them use onion bulb extract (allium cepa), but another common ingredient found in many of the creams is silicone. As alternative to the creams, there are also silicone sheets that are stuck or taped on the affected area. You need to wear the sheets for several weeks to several months. However some experts argue that silicone sheets are more effective than cream based silicone creams. Remember there is no 100% cure for keloid, but it never hurts to do some research and if you get a cream that is at the right price, you can always give it a try. But they all contain the same ingredients. There are a lot of creams in the market that promise to completely remove the keloids.

Finally you can always go see your doctor for the best advice on the type of cream to use or better still see an expert – a dermatologist. He will most likely give you a lot of ways or techniques or even recommend a powerful scar removal procedure for you to be in.
