Keloid Scars

Keloid scars are not uncommon in the least. They appear on the area of wounds that are already being healed. Its appearance is due to the growth of some types of collagen on the surface. The purpose of the collagen growth over the wound is originally to heal the wound. But due to some abnormalities in the information of the collagen fibers, it tends to become a problem. The scar can even grow beyond the limits of the original wound when it begins to appear. This way, it can lead to very strong pain. Those who had felt it had reported about some very sharp and pin like pain when they have the Keloid scar on their skin.

How it fairs

Keloid scars do not cause any thing like cancer at all. the only thing is that it may end up getting ulcerated if something drastic is not done about it when it is noticed.  It grows in a fork like dimension on the wound area and then extends to other parts around the original wound area. When this occurs, the person bearing the skin problem finds it rather difficult to move the affected part of the skin. If the affected part contains a joint, the Keloid scar may make movement impossible in that area.

Another way of appearing

It had been widely publicized that Keloid scar can appear on areas of the skin where wounds had earlier being. But researches had shown that this skin condition can also come up on its own without being prompted by any healing wound.  They can also take opportunity of very small wounds to come up. Pimples, simple scratch and even ear piercing had been known to result into this skin condition. Anyone having chicken pox or acne should therefore watch out; since they can end up resulting into Keloid scar.

Who can be affected?

There is no sex that can’t be affected; it can be seen on both males and female. Young ones and even adults can end up with it. It even tends to be worse in younger ones. They still have their body growing and when the skin condition appears on them, it tends to grow as their body size grows. At the end of the day, the skin problem grows so big on them. Laser can be used for the treatment of this skin problem. This means that a visit to the hospital will be most appropriate when you notice Keloid scar on you.
